When asked about the Covid-19 impact on their organizations’ revenue for 2021, healthcare, life sciences/pharmaceuticals & media executives expected some positive effects with 60%, 39%, and 38% anticipating higher revenue for 2021 respectively. Conversely, executives in other sectors such as construction, transport and logistics, higher education, and hospitality largely expect a negative impact.
IT budgets are not expected to grow significantly in 2021. 35% of respondents expected an increase in IT budgets for 2021 versus 30% whom expect a decrease. Executives plan to spend the largest share of budget (28%) on infrastructure and the lowest share on communications (22%). Within infrastructure, spending is heavily weighted towards spend on servers & storage.
When asked about the importance of competing technology concerns, executives cited managing security, identity and privacy as their greatest concern – with organizations in the banking, financial, and government industries ranking it particularly high on their list of priorities.
Over two-thirds of respondents report working with partners to deploy AI-solutions in their business. A much smaller portion are purchasing “off-the-shelf” solutions, indicating the need for customization in this still maturing market.
Currently 33% of workloads are operating at the edge, but in 18 months respondents expect a full 10% increase to 43% of workloads at the edge. Companies larger than $20bn in revenue anticipate seeing the greatest growth in workloads at the edge with a 12-point increase in 18 months.
