NUTRIENT EFFICIENCY Second Year of RDX-N® on Melons with 50% N: Increasing Marketable Yield/Quality Cantaloupe, Drip
RESEARCH OBJECTIVE Demonstrate RDX-N efficacy for second year in a row at half of nitrogen inputs relative to a 50% control, including pre-trial cover crop that reduced ambient soil nitrogen.
KEY OUTCOMES Cantaloupe yield was increased with RDX-N, most notably at the 50% rate. The greatest value to the grower provided by RDX-N is in quality where RDX-N at 50% increased boxes/acre by 17% over the grower standard. Both RDX-N treatments increased total soluble solids 14-17% relative to the grower standard.
BACKGROUNDRyegrass cover crop was grown to reduce ambient nitrogen in soil for this second trial demonstrating significant nitrogen reduction.
THE TRIAL WHO: University of Arizona Cooperative Extension
WHAT:
WHERE: Yuma County, AZ
ADDITIONAL NOTES: Both treatments with RDX-N™ increased yield, size grade, and brix compared with the GS 100%. The best treatment for all scenarios except brix was the half rate of nitrogen with RDX-N™. Brix was 0.7% better for the full rate of nitrogen with RDX-N™. RDX-N™ optimized nitrogen efficiency of melons in both program scenarios. Melons treated with RDX-N™ at 50% N matured more quickly and with more uniformity.
Total soluble solids is the product of yield and average percent brix. Beds were 30 feet and soil was monitored with tensiometers, irrigation triggered when dry. A subsample of 3 melons per plot were tested for brix. Soil was naturally high in potassium and calcium. Nearly 100 melons were measured for each treatment.
NUTRIENT EFFICIENCY Nitrogen optimization on corn with RDX-N® Corn, Pivot
RESEARCH OBJECTIVE Evaluate RDX-N for the ability to maintain yield at 50% of UAN-32 on Corn.
KEY OUTCOMES RDX-N at 50% nitrogen compared with the growers standard maintained yield with the 100% growers standard treatment.
BACKGROUNDCorn hybrid was a Dekalb DKC62-89 RIB. It was planted 4/21/2023 and was harvested on 0/15/2023.

EVALUATION PARAMETERS: Yield
NUTRIENT EFFICIENCY Increasing Nitrogen Optimization on Rice with RDX-N® Rice, Flood Irrigation
RESEARCH OBJECTIVE Evaluate RDX-N on nitrogen optimization in rice at 53% of nitrogen inputs.
KEY OUTCOMES The RDX-N treatment with 53% nitrogen compared with the Grower Standard 100% nitrogen maintained yield in rice (87 CWT/Acre). At significantly reduced nitrogen levels, RDX-N improved nitrogen use efficiency of rice. Growers and personnel have at least 47% less exposure to a hazardous event when using RDX-N at optimized nitrogen rates with aqua ammonia.
BACKGROUNDThere is substantial evidence that RDX-N increases nitrogen optimization for crops grown in aerobic soils. The mode of action of RDX-N for nitrogen use optimization in the plant is also effective under the predominantly anaerobic conditions of this trial.
