New D&I initiatives

In the summer of 2020, the content marketing community asked for a culture change. As a result, CMI is working to create a more diverse industry landscape in 2021. This will be accomplished by accelerating change through several initiatives. One main project is the CMI Mentorship Program. Its goals are simple:
Mentoring is a reciprocal relationship. It can transform lives and careers. Mentors benefit from this opportunity with personal growth. Mentors also gain a greater appreciation for diversity. Mentees are provided one-on-one guidance to expand their networks, broaden perspectives, and learn the skills they need to succeed.
The team looked for mentors in leadership positions within various sectors, who also represent a diverse community. They are paired with participants chosen based on an application process. At least 50% of selected mentees will be from underrepresented communities. CMI will invite members to apply, and will collaborate with minority marketing groups to solicit applications for candidates. A group of mentors and mentees will be invited to speak on the topic of mentorship and its importance to personal development at CMI’s annual conference, Content Marketing World (CMW). The panelists will add to an increasingly diverse speaker lineup. CMW presenter Sydni Craig-Hart said it best, "We have this really amazing opportunity to be advocates for diversity every single day.” This mentorship program is focused on making an impact in the content marketing community by creating opportunities and ensuring a more inclusive future for the industry.
