1How do you see the overall proteins market evolving in coming years to offer a range of diverse nutritional ingredients?
Consumers are more interested in protein than ever before, with FMCG Gurus research showing that 45% worldwide now monitor their protein intake on a daily basis1. As a result, both animal and plant proteins are seeing huge demand. The same report found that, among active nutrition consumers, 55% consider whey protein to be appealing, rising to 57% for plant proteins.
There’s a wide range of excellent plant protein sources that can boost products’ functional benefits. Both pea and rice, for example, are natural high in protein and rich in amino acids. Both are easily digestible and often mixed together in powder form to establish a superior amino acid profile. Another emerging option is fava bean, which is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, fibre and protein. Fava beans are a good source of vitamin B, which play an important role in the prevention of heart disease by lowering cholesterol.
2What protein ingredient/s do you consider to be your company’s specialty, and can you speak to how those ingredients are sourced responsibly?
In addition to our large inventory of animal proteins, we offer a number of premium plant-based options, including 8% of the global market share of pea protein plus soy, rice, chickpea, pumpkin, fava bean and more. We pride ourselves on supplying proteins that provide consistent performance, and we can create customised blends that deliver the exact nutrition profile and functionality our customers need. We also source all our proteins from secure supply chains, offering full traceability.
3In what health categories or product types are your ingredients best suited for formulation?
Our extensive range of protein ingredients enables us to provide solutions for any application, allowing manufacturers to create the perfect product for their target demographic.
Our value-added capabilities include full product development support for food, beverages, supplements, gummies and ready-to-mix powders. We will work with our customers from initial concept to finished product to achieve the results they need, helping them resolve any technical and commercialisation issues that arise.
4How do you support your customers in their product development and scientific research needs?
We are much more than just a protein supplier. Our research and development team are always on hand to provide manufacturers with all the help they need to boost their product’s chances of success.
We have a wealth of knowledge in the plant-based sector and our formulation expertise enables us to overcome common challenges related to taste, texture and solubility. As the world’s largest seller of food-grade amino acids, we offer customised amino acid blends including several vegan-friendly options. We can also create nutrient-rich premixes to meet the nutritional needs of vegan consumers, incorporating micronutrients such as vitamins B12 and D and calcium.
