"London’s thriving tech scene sits as one of the world’s great hubs of innovation and development, pioneering the technologies that promise a new, better tomorrow."
We're living in a time of change, bringing with it both uncertainty and hope for a better, happier, wealthier world.
The forward march of technology has, by and large, belonged to the latter camp. And in the midst of it all, London’s thriving tech scene sits as one of the world’s great hubs of innovation and development, pioneering the technologies that promise a new, better tomorrow.
In celebration of this privileged position at the beating heart of a multi-trillion pound global web of industries, London Tech Week is a fitting tribute to the creative verve, technical expertise and business acumen the city boasts in abundance. Bringing together the change makers and the digital disruptors with senior leaders and CIOs from just about every business sector, London Tech Week fully embraces the possibilities of change and the role technology has in achieving it.
As in previous years, London Tech Week has set out to take a snapshot of the current state of play of the London tech scene by carrying out a comprehensive survey of industry insiders and stakeholders. Based on the results of that survey, our Industry Insights report aims to preview the hottest topics of conversation throughout London Tech Week and highlight the key trends influencing the sector.
This year, with the UK’s departure from the EU dominating headlines, it is almost impossible to talk about any part of the UK economy without discussing the impact of Brexit. We will reveal what London’s tech insiders think about all the uncertainty surrounding Brexit, how they think it will affect their businesses and how exposed they believe the tech industry is to the potential negatives that might arise from a messy divorce.
At the same time, we will reveal why many are bullish about the prospect of London tech firms thriving regardless of the Brexit fallout. Following another bumper year of investment which has cemented London’s position as Europe’s premier tech hub, we will reveal which sub-sectors our survey participants expect to keep drawing in the big bucks, and where the best growth opportunities lie in the year ahead.
Finally, we will discuss the critical matter of attracting talent into the industry. Against the backdrop of tightening regulations on bringing migrant workers into the country, we ask whether London’s tech sector has the talent at its disposal to continue its remarkable success story. We ask what sort of skills will be most in demand in the years ahead and what the main challenges to digital transformation might be.
